Some Pressing Questions
(On That Fania Catalog)

By ELISEO CARDONA

I just learned that Emusic (with main offices in Miami) is no longer the owner of the Fania Records catalog, which was reportedly sold to Código Music. I've search the net but haven't been able to find solid information regarding this Codigo Music business, except that it presents itself as a booking agency on Fania Fan FB account. The new owners announced the release of a Tito Rodriguez twofer on the series «The Man and His Music», with liner-notes by Ned Sublette and Harry Sepúlveda.

I've read on a couple of websites the same press release in Spanish (these guys don't even bother to fucking rewrite), which means that no one has asked some questions. Why did Emusic sold the catalog? Did they really got rid of it? And how much $$$ was involved? I really really really want to know since there has been so much bullshit going around in Puerto Rico with Tite Curet Alonso's compositions. And since Emusic was supposedly staging a fracas in court with ACEMLA, Curet's custodian and royalties administrator, it will be nice to know what's going to happen with all that money floating around and not getting to the heir of one of the greatest Latin American songwriters.
